A Letter From Michael
Neighbors near and far,
My name is Michael Lilliquist, and I am running for City Council because I love our city, Bellingham. I was born in a US Army hospital in Germany while my father was serving during the Cold War, but grew up in suburban Bellevue, back when there were still open woods, farms, and fields inside the city limits, and I walked through a horse pasture to go to junior high.
I graduated from the University of Washington, where I earned a degree in history and another degree in psychology. I followed this with a Ph.D. in behavioral neuroscience from the University if Texas, where I worked in scientific research and as an instructor. My wife, Barbara, is a family doctor practicing down in Mt. Vernon. While our daughter, Rebecca, is growing up, I have chosen to be a stay-at-home dad and while working part-time, initially as a neuropsychological testing technician and more recently as a trained paralegal.
My wife and I met in high school, where I sat behind her in math class admiring her smile whenever she would turn around. We began dating our first year in college, but did not start our family until after both of us had finished up our advanced schooling. With the birth of our daughter, we decided that we needed to return back home to Washington State, but found that Bellevue was no longer a place that we could live. We took a leap of faith and moved to Bellingham and have never regretted it for a second. We adore Bellingham. We think this is a great place to live, work, walk our dogs and raise a family, and I'd like to do all that I can to keep it that way. I hope I can earn your vote in the primary this August and the general election in November.
Thanks for your support!
Michael Lilliquist
